Apple has updated its entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M6 chip. The laptop keeps the same Liquid Retina XDR display, with an optional nano-texture finish, and a 12MP Center Stage camera. Its ports include three Thunder 4 USB-C ports with charging and DisplayPort support, MagSafe 3, full-size HDMI, and an SDXC memory card slot.
The new model adds Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. It starts at $1,999 with 16GB of memory, the same starting price as last year’s M5 model. Preorders begin October 28, with shipping expected to start November 6.
Apple says the M6 is its first 2nm chip. Its CPU has 12 cores, up from 10 in the M5, and Apple claims up to 1.2x faster multithreaded performance than its predecessor. The chip also has a Dual 16-core Neural Engine for on-device AI tasks and a 12-core GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core. Apple says the M6 is more power efficient.
