Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra update fixes reboot and display bugs

Microsoft has released a firmware update for the Surface Laptop Ultra that addresses three problems: screen flickering, unexpected restarts and lengthy reboot times. The company announced the release on October 22.

Microsoft says the update also includes unspecified additional bug fixes and general performance improvements. The Verge’s Jess Weatherbed reported that reviewer Tom Warren encountered some of the problems, including slow reboots and trails left behind when moving a window quickly. The report says Warren also experienced speaker interference, but it is unclear whether the update addresses that issue. The Verge said it had asked Microsoft for clarification.

Microsoft says some users may need to restart their device after installing the firmware to complete the installation. The update will reach all Surface Laptop Ultra devices, though not all at the same time. Users can also install it manually through Microsoft’s driver and firmware page.

The firmware update cannot be uninstalled or rolled back to an earlier version.
