Grok releases the first seven minutes of its AI-generated ‘Odyssey’

Three months after Elon Musk said Grok would release a full-length, “historically accurate” AI-generated version of “The Odyssey,” the company has published seven minutes of footage. It calls the clip “Episode 1 of our Odyssey series.” The project was made with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker.

The footage follows Musk’s earlier criticism of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” for casting nonwhite and transgender actors. TechCrunch’s Anthony Ha writes that Grok’s version appears to use characters with skin colors Musk would approve of, while its narrator has a British accent familiar from fantasy games and Hollywood epics.

Ha says some shots resemble real actors at sea, but describes the footage as lacking artistry, inspiration, and human interest. He criticizes its lengthy voiceover backstory and stiff dialogue, and says the short episode feels slow and emotionally distant. Ha also writes that he found it harder to stay engaged with Grok’s version than with Nolan’s nearly three-hour film.

Musk had announced the planned full-length film three months earlier. The release is presented as the first episode in a series; the article does not establish whether a full movie will follow.
