A user found an uneven load on the power connector of a second MSI GeForce RTX 5090 before it melted, according to Wccftech. The power supply’s Safeguard+ feature helped identify a pin that was not carrying current.
The user had previously sent an RTX 5090 for a return merchandise authorization (RMA). The replacement appeared to work normally and showed no errors, the report says. Swapping the power supply helped the user detect the connector issue.
Uneven load on the 12V-2x6 connector has been associated with melting. The report says vendors have tried measures including cables with built-in sensors and monitoring devices to address the problem. It also says the issue has affected RTX 50-series graphics cards, particularly the higher-power RTX 5090.
Wccftech does not identify the user or provide details about the specific power supply or the connector’s condition after the issue was detected.
