Major League Baseball (MLB) has redesigned its app to take advantage of the foldable screen on Apple’s iPhone Duo, launched on October 23, 2026. The new experience arrives as the World Series begins, with the Tampa Bay Rays facing the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1.
The app can show live video alongside real-time statistics and box scores on the device’s inner display. Fans can also watch full-screen or use another app alongside the game. MLB began developing the experience after Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, preparing it for launch in 44 days.
MLB is also using AI to generate information about individual plays, players and game situations. Sean Curtis, the league’s chief technology officer, told TechRadar he was excited about bringing the league’s Game Day experience together with live video and statistics. He said AI adds context to events as they happen.
Kenny Gersh, MLB’s executive vice president of Media, Business Development, and Product, described the appeal of opening the phone to have a larger screen ready for video. The league and Apple have worked together since the early days of the App Store. Their past projects have included HTTP Live Streaming and spatial sports broadcasts on Apple Vision Pro.
MLB expects to learn from fan reactions during the World Series and refine the app in the off-season. Curtis hinted at further developments but did not discuss them. The source says MLB is exploring ways to keep fans engaged with the app without pulling them away from a live game.
