The Browser Company plans to shut down its Arc browser on December 22, according to a post on the Arc website. The company calls the move a “sunset.”
The shutdown will happen in stages. New Arc accounts can no longer be created starting today. On November 23, the Browse for Me feature and other AI features will be disabled on iOS and Android, and users will no longer be able to sign in or sync their tabs.
On December 22, Arc will become inaccessible on macOS and Windows. Arc accounts will be deactivated, and Arc Search for Android will be removed from Google Play.
The Browser Company moved on to developing its AI-focused Dia browser last year but continued maintaining Arc. The company says Dia is now its focus, including for its entire security team. It has published an FAQ explaining how users can import their data into Dia.
Last year, Atlassian acquired The Browser Company for $610 million. The source article also notes that Zen, a browser based on Mozilla’s Gecko engine, is often recommended to people seeking an Arc-like experience.
