Figma Adds 20 MCP Partners as Dylan Field Calls the Protocol Imperfect

Figma announced 20 new partners for the Model Context Protocol (MCP) at its first Config conference in India, expanding its support for the open-source standard. The partners include Amp, ClickUp, Dia, Junie by JetBrains, Linear, Meta Muse, Mistral, Notion, OpenCode and Sarvam Agents.

Figma co-founder Dylan Field said the company wants to open its ecosystem but does not consider MCP a perfect protocol. He said it has room for improvement and is more advantageous to frontier labs. Field also acknowledged that users want a protocol for working with their Figma data and said he wants them to be able to do so.

Field’s comments came amid a debate over Figma’s support for the open-source tool Pi. Days before the partner announcement, one of MCP’s co-creators had criticized Figma for not supporting Pi. Field responded on X that Figma planned to support it. He also questioned why Anthropic, which created MCP, does not expose artifacts and other cloud resources through the protocol.

Figma’s CEO said exposing more company data through MCP could increase the chance of abuse. He added that, even though most users do not intend to use MCP or Figma data maliciously, the company must consider those risks.
