President Donald Trump said Elon Musk’s proposed SpaceX share giveaway for children would be distributed through Trump Accounts. Musk said earlier that day that he planned to give one SpaceX share to “every kid in America” sometime next year.
Musk had thanked Trump Account supporter Brad Gerstner for “helping enable this,” and Trump appeared to confirm the plan in a post on Truth Social. The Verge reported the announcement; the source does not provide further details about how the proposed distribution would work.
Based on SpaceX’s stock value on Friday, 72 million shares would be worth approximately $10.5 billion, according to CNBC. Musk said, “This will be the first of many.” Michael and Susan Dell, Ray and Barbara Dalio, Gerstner, and SpaceX president Gwynne Shotwell have also promised contributions to Trump Accounts.
In October, the White House said that after automatically enrolling about 60 million children, more than 70 million accounts had been created.
