Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad said the company is no longer working with Anthropic. He made the remarks onstage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026, citing cost, partnership considerations and performance as reasons for the decision.
Masad said Replit uses an internal benchmark to assess performance and also publishes a public benchmark. He said OpenAI models Sol and Astra perform better on building vibe-coded applications from scratch. Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, though the announcement did not indicate that its Anthropic partnership had ended.
Replit offers a cloud-based software development platform for building and deploying apps in a browser. Under its Anthropic partnership, the company used Claude models to run the platform. TechCrunch reported that the partnership had helped Replit grow revenue significantly.
People familiar with the partnership pushed back on Masad’s account. One source, who asked not to be named, said the partnership was still in place. A September blog post cited Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5 and Claude Fable 5.1 as models running in Replit Agent’s production environment. TechCrunch said it had asked Replit for clarification and would update its report if it received a response.
Masad also said enterprise contracts rose from 2% of revenue last year to 15% this year, while more than 50% of revenue is now business-to-business. He did not disclose annual recurring revenue figures.
