Google Home is rolling out local Matter support for Philips Hue lights, an update that could make controls respond faster and keep working during an internet outage, provided the local network remains operational. The report was published by TechRadar’s David Nield, citing Google via 9to5Google.
The update is expected to install in the background without requiring users to pair their lights again. Users can look for an update to the Google Home app in the Android or iOS app store. The source does not specify when the rollout will reach all users.
Google Home is also receiving other changes. Google says conversations in the Gemini for Home early access program will end more naturally, and temperature units in weather information will be more consistent. Gemini should better distinguish requests to stop media playback or an alarm from requests to end a conversation. Requests for relaxing music are also expected to open a media player app instead of ambient sounds.
Other app updates include improved drag-and-drop stability, more prominent smoke and carbon monoxide alarm messages, revamped third-party controls for lights, plugs and switches, and camera fixes. Google also says Matter hubs should be more responsive and reliable through Google Home.
