Windows Server 2022 Enters Extended Support Through October 2031

Microsoft says Windows Server 2022 reached the end of mainstream support on October 13, 2026, and has moved into extended support. The October 2026 security update was the final mainstream support update for the release.

Extended support includes security updates at no additional cost. Microsoft says Windows Server 2022 will receive monthly security updates through October 14, 2031. Hotpatching for Datacenter: Azure Edition systems has also been extended until October 2027.

Microsoft unveiled Windows Server 2022 in March 2021 and made it generally available in September 2021 as a Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release with 10 years of support.

The company advised IT administrators to plan an upgrade to Windows Server 2025, the latest LTSC release. It began rolling out to Windows Insiders in January 2024 and became generally available in November 2024. Microsoft lists November 2029 as the end of mainstream support for Windows Server 2025, followed by five years of extended support through November 14, 2034. A free 180-day trial is available through the Microsoft Evaluation Center.
