YouTube Music Adds Labels for AI-Generated Music

YouTube Music is rolling out labels to show listeners when generative AI was used to create a track. The labels will appear on the player page, and selecting one will provide more information about AI’s role in the track’s creation. The labels will also appear in the main YouTube app.

YouTube says it worked with music partners and used its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. Partners can designate tracks as “Fully Gen AI,” “Partly Gen AI” or “No Gen AI.” The first label covers tracks generated entirely by AI. The second applies when artists use AI-generated components alongside their own live elements. Tracks edited with pitch-correction tools such as Auto-Tune fall under “No Gen AI.”

The rollout comes as streaming services take different approaches to AI-made music. Apple Music plans to introduce “Made With AI” labels later this year. Deezer said in July it was receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks a day; it labels detected tracks and excludes them from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists. TIDAL also labels recordings it identifies as entirely AI-generated.

YouTube is emphasizing disclosure rather than blanket restrictions: AI involvement alone does not make a track ineligible for monetization. The company also experiments with AI music tools, including Dream Track, which lets select creators generate soundtracks featuring AI-generated versions of participating artists’ voices.
