Anbernic has shared a video of its upcoming RG DDS, a dual-screen handheld designed around the Nintendo 3DS format. The company’s video shows it running 3DS, Xbox, and PS3 games through emulation, though full performance details are not yet known.
The Verge’s Andrew Liszewski reports that the RG DDS, short for “Dream Dual Screen,” has a faster processor and displays with aspect ratios matching the 3DS. Anbernic says it is not trying to recreate the console’s glasses-free 3D effect. The top screen measures 4.7 inches with a 1,200x720 resolution; the bottom screen measures 4 inches with a 960x720 resolution. Both have triple the resolution of the 3DS screens, allowing emulated games to be scaled up.
The handheld uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset and a 6,000mAh rechargeable battery. It also has vibration feedback, a retractable stylus, and an additional analog stick on the lower right. A button beside the lower screen will open AI features that Anbernic has not yet revealed.
The RG DDS will initially come in blue, white, and black. Anbernic has not announced its price. The Ayaneo Pocket DS starts at $579, while the RG DS and RG DS Plus start below $100.
