TechRadar reviewer Alastair Jennings says Formlabs’ Form Studio 1 brings a more polished workflow to the more affordable end of resin 3D printing. In his review, he describes the printer’s build quality, resin handling and PreForm software as closer to a professional machine than most resin printers he has tested.
The printer uses a drop-in cartridge to feed its resin tank and monitors resin levels and temperature. Jennings says the process was unusually clean during his month with the machine, when he used the six cartridges supplied for the review and three tanks that could be covered and stored. He notes that resin printing still requires model cleanup and tank cleaning for longer-term storage.
Formlabs expects the Studio 1 Basic package to cost $699 and the Flex package $749. Basic includes the printer, resin tank and build platform; Flex adds a flexible build platform and accessories. The Form Studio Wash+Cure is expected to cost $199, and the optional VOC Extractor is listed at $179. The review says the larger Form Wash V2 and Form Cure V2 are also compatible and sold separately.
Jennings found the printer quieter than nearby FFF machines, with a faint motor sound. He did not test the VOC Extractor or measure emissions, and says he used the printer in a well-ventilated workshop. Formlabs says the printer has UL GREENGUARD Gold certification with the extractor attached.
