Google Wallet update adds receipt scanning and three other features

Google is rolling out four changes to Google Wallet through the October Google Play Services update, version 26.40. The features were spotted by Android Police, according to TechRadar.

The update lets users scan receipts and save and view them in Google Wallet. It also improves merchant names shown in transaction notifications. Google has not specified how those names will change.

A new in-app message center is also included, though Google has not said what messages it will carry. The fourth change affects Google Pay in Chrome for Android: when users provide a merchant with their name, email address and phone number, they can skip the Payment Request UI.

The update is rolling out automatically. TechRadar says users who do not see the changes yet will likely receive them soon. To check the installed Google Play Services version, users can open Settings, select Apps, then Google Play Services; the version number appears at the bottom of the screen.
