Apple announced the HomeView, a smart home hub, at its “Welcome Home” event. The company also showed a video featuring the device.
HomeView has a 7-inch square display and costs $299. It comes in two versions: one mounts on a wall, while the other sits on a small speaker base. The device can display smart home controls, show information using Siri AI, make video calls and display footage from HomeKit Secure Video cameras. It also works as a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router.
Apple CEO John Ternus shared a short video of HomeView on X, showing some of the different “faces” users can choose from. The device comes in four colors: silver, starlight, rose pink and space gray. Preorders begin today, and shipping starts on November 13.
Apple had reportedly planned to launch a smart home display in 2024 with an AI-powered Siri upgrade, but changed its plans after delaying the upgrade, Bloomberg reported. Apple launched its Siri AI overhaul alongside its operating system updates last month.
