Microsoft is adding document creation, editing and collaboration features for Word, Excel and PowerPoint to its Copilot app, according to TechRadar. The change lets users work with those documents inside Copilot rather than opening separate Office apps for further edits.
The app can already generate documents from conversations in Copilot Chat or Copilot Cowork. A new Library feature brings those documents into the Copilot interface. Users will also be able to share, comment on and review documents there, TechRadar reports.
Office Product Group executive Sumit Chauhan described the move as bringing familiar Office creation and collaboration experiences into Copilot, as the company pursues a more unified experience. The shift reverses an earlier approach that focused on adding Copilot features to Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The new experience is currently available only to Frontier customers using Chat and Cowork. TechRadar says it could reach more users within a few months, but Microsoft has not announced a broader availability date in the material cited. The report presents the change as a possible first step in a larger shift for Microsoft 365, while noting that the app may become a central workspace for creating and adjusting documents with AI.
