ICANN has revealed further details about the 1,615 applications it received in its latest round for new top-level domains (TLDs), including bids for .chatgpt and .claude. TechRadar reported the disclosures after the application window closed.
ICANN said 333 applications were for brand-related domains. More than 800 applications came from North American organizations, including 864 from North America overall, while 506 came from Europe. Together, North American and European applications represented 85% of submissions by the August deadline. ICANN also reported 21 applications for internationalized domain names using scripts such as Arabic and Chinese.
OpenAI applied for 15 TLDs, including .chatgpt. Six other applicants also sought .agi. Google applied for more than 30 extensions, including .api, .mcp and .agent. Meta sought .superintelligence, .agent and .wearables, while Anthropic applied for .anthropic and .claude.
ICANN CEO Kurtis Lindqvist said the applications showed organizations were finding new ways to build trusted online identities and connect with internet users. The organization plans to hold its Prioritization Draw in the first half of 2027. Successful applications are not expected to go live until at least the second half of that year, according to TechRadar.
