Crusoe plans two $4.8 billion data centers in West Texas

Crusoe has filed applications for two data centers in Jayton, Texas, with a combined planned investment of $4.8 billion. Each proposed facility would cover 759,260 square feet, for nearly 1.52 million square feet of computing space.

The applications place the buildings along Country Road 233 and P2390 in Kent County but do not give street addresses. Construction is scheduled to start in January 2027. The first facility is expected to come online in May 2029, followed by the second in July. The filings do not say whether Crusoe will operate the buildings or identify a customer for them.

The applications describe the Jayton buildings as “spur buildings” connected to Project Hyper, Crusoe’s separate development in Childress. That project has three planned buildings of about 806,360 square feet each, with investment estimated at roughly $2.4 billion per building. Two are under construction; work on the third is expected to begin this month. All three are scheduled for completion by the end of June 2028.

Combined planned investment for Project Hyper and Jayton is approximately $12 billion. The filings do not specify whether the Jayton site will use electricity infrastructure linked to Childress. Meta has been reported as a prospective tenant at the Childress campus, but no customer is named for Jayton. Crusoe is also developing a campus for Google in Armstrong County, and OpenAI uses its Abilene facility. Additional Abilene capacity is expected to be leased to Microsoft.
