Hark releases AI assistant focused on privacy

Hark has widely released Hark Pro, an AI personal assistant that uses a computer-use model to carry out digital tasks. The service is free, with a subscription tier for heavy users. The start-up was founded less than a year ago by Brett Adcock.

Hark presents Hark Pro as a full-screen interface with a central chat, suggested actions and small dashboards it calls “panels.” Users can connect services and files such as email, calendars, hard drives and credit cards. The assistant can then handle tasks as well as answer chatbot questions. In a demonstration, Hark design lead Abidhur Chowdhury showed it surfacing pending expenses, emails and a meeting, and offering to book a flight. He also said it had handled a colleague’s car-registration renewal through the California DMV website.

Hark shows the agent navigating the web in a small window, a design choice Chowdhury said is intended to build trust. He said the company aims to understand users to help with tasks, and rejected the idea that Hark is there to sell ads or take their data. The article notes that giving an assistant access to a person’s digital life raises cybersecurity and privacy questions.

Chowdhury said Hark Pro may not be faster than Muse, but he expects it to deliver better results and complete tasks end to end. The model was trained specifically for computer use; how that affects its broader knowledge compared with a frontier large language model remains unclear. Hark also promises an AI-native device in 2027, but has not disclosed its form.
