Pinterest has introduced Beauty Guides, an AI feature that turns saved beauty Pins into plans users can take to a salon. TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez reported that Pinterest showed off the feature on Tuesday.
Powered by Pinterest Intelligence, the company’s visual intelligence and generative AI technology, Beauty Guides explain Pins using terms stylists and nail artists use. Examples include “balayage,” “root melt” and “almond nails.” The guides also describe what users can ask for to get a similar look, along with an estimated time, price range and maintenance requirements.
Maintenance details may include how often a user needs a trim, toner or touch-up. TechCrunch noted that balayage can cost hundreds of dollars, making the price information potentially useful when planning a salon visit. The feature is intended to help users discuss which parts of an inspiration image they want to change.
Users can open a guide by tapping “Get the Guide” in the app. At launch, Beauty Guides will work with Pins about hairstyles, hair color, nail shape and nail finish. The source does not provide a launch date or say which markets will have access.
