CAPCOM is developing REX as an evolution of its RE Engine, with the goal of creating a game engine suited to what it calls the “AI generation,” according to Wccftech.
At CAPCOM Open Conference RE:2026, held on October 2, programmer Satoshi Ishida described the REX project. He said it aims to make the engine easier for both human developers and artificial intelligence to work with.
According to Ishida, the project unified the system under the rules of the world’s most common programming language. Wccftech’s account says this consistent structure makes the engine easier for AI to read, as well as easier for developers to use.
The headline frames AI as potentially able to write code and hunt bugs. The supplied report summary does not provide further details about how those capabilities would be used or when REX might reach developers.
