OpenAI is rolling out two shopping features globally in ChatGPT: virtual try-on for clothing and accessories, and Favorites, a way to save products for later.
With virtual try-on, users can upload a selfie or full-body photo to see how an item might look on them. The option will appear as a new “try on” button in ChatGPT shopping results. Users can also upload an image of an item, such as a web screenshot, and ask ChatGPT to try it on.
Favorites lets users save products to a Library in the app. OpenAI says those products will be saved alongside users’ try-on images.
The features use OpenAI’s newly launched ChatGPT Images 2.5 model. The company says it produces more natural lighting and richer textures, follows editing instructions more reliably, and reduces image-generation latency.
OpenAI also says users can describe a style and ask ChatGPT to find pieces for the look, or upload photos of celebrity outfits and ask it to find purchasable items. The source notes that Pinterest and Google have been prominent in fashion inspiration and discovery in recent years. Whether ChatGPT becomes a first choice for this activity remains uncertain; Google launched virtual try-on last year.
