Five new details revealed about Grand Theft Auto 6

A Game Informer cover story has revealed five details about Grand Theft Auto 6, including a world Rockstar Games describes as its largest yet and a wildlife roster of 170 animal species.

The game’s setting, Leonida, includes six main regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaha National Park. Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut said the world is larger than the one in GTA 5 by “some degree”; the report says it is twice as big. Garbut also described the setting as denser and more interactive.

Rockstar says it rebuilt the weather system to make conditions more localized and persistent. The game will feature changing weather, including rain and lightning storms, as well as puddles that remain after rain and rainbows.

The 170 animal species include more than 60 bird types and over 30 land mammals, alongside fish and reptiles, according to the report. Rockstar also says the game will include more than 600,000 combined animations for its non-player characters (NPCs).

Players can control Lucia or Jason. The game will have a six-star Wanted system and a new “Heat” system: police can use details such as clothing, hairstyles and vehicles to identify the protagonists. Changing their appearance or vehicle, or splitting up, can help them evade police, while an arrest results in a “Busted” screen even if the other protagonist escapes.
