Honor has launched the Magic 9 Pro Max in China, presenting the phone as a “handheld cinema system.” Its release is part of the smartphone maker’s partnership with Arri, a manufacturer of professional film cameras.
The phone has a dual 200MP rear camera system powered by Honor Imaging Chip H1. Honor says its main camera sensors are calibrated with Arri Image Science and Arri LogC3 Curve in the Arri Wide Gamut 3 color space. Users can choose from 14 preset looks or 87 options in the Arri look library. The phone also includes Arri Cinema Mode, which first appeared on the Honor Robot Phone.
The Magic 9 Pro Max runs MagicOS 11 and uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. It is available with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Its 6.8-inch OLED screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1320 x 2868. Honor says the display can reach 10,000 nits of brightness. The phone carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for water and dust resistance, as well as SGS 5-Star Scratch Resistance Certification.
Prices start at RMB 6,499, approximately $970, £730 or AU$1,380. Honor says the model will begin rolling out to other regions. The source reports no expected US availability, based on previous release patterns.
