Apple reportedly eyes NVIDIA NVLink Fusion for M8-based Baltra servers after 2011 exit

Apple is reportedly considering NVIDIA’s NVLink Fusion for its upcoming “Baltra” ASIC, according to Wccftech, potentially linking the chip with Apple servers based on M8 chips.

The reported plan would use NVIDIA’s bespoke low-latency connectivity solution to maintain interoperability with Apple’s own M8 chip-based servers. It could also give Apple more flexibility for its Private Compute inference architecture, although the report presents this as a possibility rather than a confirmed decision.

Apple has been working with Broadcom on its first AI server chip, internally codenamed “Baltra.” The Information previously reported that the ASIC could use TSMC’s 3nm “N3E” process. Wccftech frames the reported NVLink Fusion interest as a possible return to enterprise hardware after Apple’s 2011 exit.
