JustWatch TV to launch with free and paid streaming tiers

Entertainment guide JustWatch is launching its own streaming platform, JustWatch TV, in October, although an exact date has not been announced. TechRadar’s Rowan Davies reports that the service was announced at the Toronto International Film Festival on Tuesday, September 15.

JustWatch TV will initially launch in 12 countries: the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand. JustWatch says it plans to expand to other regions in the future.

The service will offer a free ad-supported tier, a paid subscription tier, and the option to rent titles, similar to Prime Video. Prices for the paid plan have not been revealed. JustWatch’s existing guide will continue directing users to other platforms when a title is unavailable on JustWatch TV.

Six partners are supporting the content launch: Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street, and Vortex Media are among those named in the report, although the source describes six partners overall. New Regency’s cited films include 12 Years a Slave (2013) and Birdman (2014), alongside the TV series Malcolm in the Middle.

Founded in 2014, JustWatch is moving from helping viewers find content to hosting a catalog of its own. Davies suggests that the mix of free and paid options, together with its distribution partners, could help JustWatch TV compete with established free services such as Tubi.
