Spotify is rolling out a new toggle that lets parents exclude children’s and family music from their taste profile. The company announced the feature on Tuesday, according to TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez.
When enabled, the setting prevents children’s songs from influencing personalized recommendations and Spotify Wrapped. That includes music from animated films, family TV shows, nursery rhymes, and other tracks made for children. Spotify specifically cited examples such as Kidz Bop, Disney songs, and K-Pop Demon Hunters’ Golden.
The feature is rolling out globally on mobile devices for both Free and Premium users. It is turned on by default, so users must switch it off to exclude children’s music. The change also works retroactively: music already streamed will no longer count toward Wrapped’s top song or artist results.
Spotify says the setting addresses a recurring problem for families whose shared televisions, smart speakers, bedrooms, or cars are connected to a parent’s account. Previously, users could exclude individual tracks or playlists, but doing so was largely manual. Spotify has also introduced Managed Accounts for listeners under 13, with age-appropriate discovery and parental controls.
