AI Traces Found in Nearly One in Ten Swedish Parliamentary Motions

Nearly one in ten Swedish parliamentary motions submitted during the 2025–2026 parliamentary year contains text that researchers say was written with support from generative AI. That corresponds to around 300 motions, according to a study from Chalmers University of Technology.

None of the motions openly disclosed that AI had been used, the study says. Researchers analyzed Swedish and British parliamentary texts using specially developed AI detectors.

The share of Swedish motions containing AI-assisted content has increased steadily since 2022, according to the study. The question of transparency has also become more relevant after new parts of the EU AI Act began to apply.

On the same day, the Swedish government announced that an investigator will analyze how the principle of public access to official records should be applied when government agencies use AI.
