DJI Romo 2 Adds Advanced Navigation and Local Data Mode

DJI has introduced the second-generation Romo 2 robot vacuum, pairing a distinctive semi-translucent design with upgraded navigation and privacy features.

The Romo 2 uses an advanced sensory array that combines Structured-Light Speckle Projector LiDAR with dual-eye fisheye vision sensors to create precise 3D maps in real time. DJI says the vacuum can avoid obstacles as thin as 2mm and navigate around floor-standing mirrors and glass partitions.

Pop-out wheels help the robot clear single steps up to 1.6in / 4cm and double steps up to 3.3in / 8.5cm. Its mop pad can swing out 123 degrees, extending its reach by 3in / 7.8cm and allowing it to clean beneath low furniture.

DJI also says the Romo 2 uses AI to distinguish solid from liquid spills. When it detects a liquid spill, its robotic mop arm moves out to clear the area without getting liquid on the wheels.

The Romo 2 follows a security incident involving the first-generation Romo, in which an owner inadvertently gained access to 7,000 other devices. DJI has added Local Data Mode, which completely severs the DJI Home app’s internet connection. With the mode active, home maps, camera feeds and voice recordings should have no way to leave the device.

DJI has released the Romo P2 with a transparent cover and the Romo A2 with opaque covers.
