Hisense has shown what it describes as the world’s first micro-LED 3D TV at IFA. The model uses active-shutter glasses, which alternate frames for the left and right eyes. Because the glasses reduce brightness and each eye sees only half the frames, 3D images have often looked dim.
Hisense’s micro-LED TV is capable of 10,000 nits of peak brightness. That headroom is intended to keep the image bright even when viewed through the glasses. In the demonstration, colors appeared rich, while native 4K resolution produced a sharp and detailed 3D effect. The footage showed no ghosting or stuttering, and motion looked smooth.
The display also produced a strong sense of depth, with foreground objects appearing to extend toward the viewer and backgrounds showing noticeable distance. Hisense says the TV will convert 2D content to 3D in real time using an AI-based system processed on the TV itself.
The company has not solved the discomfort or inconvenience of wearing 3D glasses. Hisense said the TV would cost over $200,00. The company often presents concepts at IFA that it aims to launch, although some are released only in China.
