Huawei has unveiled the Watch D3, a health-focused smartwatch built around blood-pressure monitoring. Its strap contains inflatable bladders that swell and act as a cuff for measurements.
The Watch D3 is 11.3mm thick and weighs 40g. Huawei says its “ultra-narrow” inflatable band makes the watch easier to wear during the day and at night. It offers “24-hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)” in accordance with medical guidelines, according to Huawei. Users can customize daytime intervals and take manual measurements, while nighttime readings are taken automatically with quieter inflation. The watch also records pre- and post-exercise blood-pressure measurements.
Other features include GPS, outdoor route navigation, running analytics, and Health Community, which lets family members view each other’s stats. The Watch D3 is available in black, white, and gold from £399.99, or around $545 / AU$745. It is unavailable in the US because of the ongoing Huawei telecomms tech ban.
Apple offers a Hypertension feature that monitors sleep over 30 days for possible signs of hypertension, while the Google Pixel Watch 5 has a Blood Pressure Detection feature. The Signal Ring startup is developing cuffless, calibration-less blood-pressure sensing through a smart ring.
