Roland FP-40 Digital Piano Adds Built-In Wi-Fi

Roland has unveiled the FP-40, a portable digital piano with built-in Wi-Fi integration. The company describes it as its first piano with this capability. The FP-40 is priced at $750, roughly £750 or AU$1,149, and is available in black or white.

The piano supports Bluetooth Audio/MIDI and USB-C connectivity. It also includes Roland’s Piano Reality Sound Engine, weighted hammer-action keys, and triple-sensor technology designed to improve responsiveness when playing notes. Through its Wi-Fi connection, the FP-40 can receive regular software updates and connect to a home network like other personal devices.

Roland is launching the piano alongside Piano Sphere, a music-learning app developed by Skoove. The app includes personalized guidance, real-time feedback, step-by-step lessons, and learning plans based on the player’s current level. A phone or tablet is needed to view features such as progress streaks and reward badges.

The Piano Sphere button on the FP-40 lights up to provide feedback while playing, and the piano records playing history automatically even when the app is closed. Basic access includes 100 copyright-free songs. An upgrade provides access to more than 1,000 songs and lessons, while Roland says no extra payment is required for the basic Piano Sphere subscription.
