Vodafone is moving beyond mobile and broadband services with Vodafone TV, a streaming service and set-top box launching in October for mobile and broadband customers.
Vodafone TV provides access to Freely, a free streaming service with more than 70 live channels and thousands of hours of on-demand content. It also includes Netflix Standard with ads and HBO Max Standard with ads, making the package a potential rival to Sky Ultimate TV.
The Vodafone TV hub runs Android TV and offers access to apps and games through the Google Play Store, including dedicated apps for most streaming services. The device also provides access to more than 300 cloud games, playable with a Bluetooth controller or a smartphone.
Users will be able to rent and buy films through Vodafone Box Office. A companion app will let them start watching at home and continue elsewhere.
The hub has 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and support for 4K, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. Vodafone has not revealed pricing. Vodafone TV will launch alongside SuperMobile, a mobile plan promising speeds up to 4x faster than Vodafone’s standard plans and minimum speeds of 15Mbps at all times.
