The global RAM market could face a severe supply shortage in 2027, according to a report cited by Business Korea and Wccftech. The report, attributed to KB Securities, says Samsung and SK Hynix have fewer than 10 days of memory inventory remaining.
Analysts link the pressure to rising demand for HBM4 memory in AI data centers. AI infrastructure investment for 2027 has reportedly been revised up to $1.3 trillion, a 60% year-on-year increase. KB Securities research chief Kim Dong-won said AI servers could absorb demand for HBM, server DDR5, and enterprise SSDs, potentially creating a historic shortage.
The reported squeeze could also affect consumer products if manufacturers prioritize more profitable server memory. The source notes that consumer memory modules may be pushed further aside as supply tightens, while separate rumors of GPU price increases add to market concerns.
Framework provided a more positive development. The laptop maker said it had secured some memory modules at a lower price and would reduce prices for some current Framework Laptop orders. Framework also said on X that it was retroactively reducing prices for orders that had shipped at a higher price.
