Meta’s Muse AI assistant is now available on Mac, bringing its ability to work with files and applications to the desktop. Within their native apps, Muse can interact with files, messages, calendars, notes, and mail.
The Mac release follows Muse’s launch on mobile and the web earlier this month. The assistant quickly rose to the top of the U.S. App Store charts after that launch.
On Mac, access is opt-in. Users can control which information Muse can reach, while Meta says the app will ask for approval before performing sensitive actions. The company presents those controls as part of the desktop experience.
The release comes as competition grows among consumer-facing AI agents. The trend is putting pressure on traditional applications and software-as-a-service businesses, while some in the industry believe these agents could eventually affect hardware as well.
Other companies are also developing consumer-facing agents, and some services let people interact with them through text messages. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on X that the Muse team is “shipping fast” when announcing the Mac app. The launch adds another platform to Muse as companies compete for consumer adoption.
