Bungie will restore vaulted Destiny 2 content

Bungie says it is not done with Destiny and plans to restore vaulted content in Destiny 2, including campaigns, destinations, and raids, according to The Verge.

The move reverses the Destiny Content Vault, created six years ago to remove older Destiny 2 content. Bungie acknowledged that taking away experiences players had paid to access had a lasting effect on trust and enjoyment. It said restoring this history is how it can begin to address that impact.

All Destiny 2 players will receive access to the returning content. The process will take time because the Beyond Light expansion brought major changes to underlying systems. Bungie must update lighting, encounters, combatants, and other systems so the older material meets current stability and gameplay standards.

The announcement follows the appearance of the “Sunrise” offline preservation mod, which lets players access vaulted areas but not the exact campaigns and missions they previously played. Bungie called its restoration project a first step toward future stories and games, but it did not announce a sequel or commit to one. For now, it says it is building a stronger long-term future for Destiny.

Bungie also said Marathon did not reach as many players as hoped and needs to evolve. The extraction shooter will move further toward a survival experience, although the details remain unclear.
