Apple’s AI Health app faces questions after Google Health backlash

Apple is preparing an AI-powered overhaul of its Health app, but Google Health’s troubled experience has raised concerns about what could follow.

Google-owned Fitbit announced a major redesign of its companion app in May 2026. Users quickly criticized the rebranded app for missing features and confusing interface decisions. Complaints later focused on Google Health’s AI assistant, which is intended to analyze wellbeing data and suggest ways to improve fitness and health.

According to reported user experiences, the assistant has produced inaccurate fitness advice, false information and fictional food-tracking metrics. That has frustrated users and raised concerns because health-related suggestions can affect physical wellbeing.

Apple has a strong record of cautious LLM implementation and says its health innovations undergo rigorous scientific validation with clinical experts. The company also emphasizes encryption, privacy and security for sensitive health data.

However, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI rely in part on Google’s AI models after Apple sought help from Google. It is not clear whether Apple has substantially modified those models for its Health app.

Apple Health is not guaranteed to repeat Google Health’s problems, but its reliability and security will remain questions until the redesigned app becomes available later this year.
