AI agents are changing where advertising accountability sits

AI tools in advertising have usually analyzed campaign data and recommended changes, while advertisers still made the edits. TechRadar reports that a growing number of advanced platforms now let AI agents execute campaign changes directly.

An advertiser can instruct an agent to pause push campaigns with a CTR below 0.3% and raise bids by 15% on the 3 best performers. These agents can also support campaign creation, editing, targeting, budgeting, scheduling, creative management, and reporting through a single conversation.

The shift changes where accountability sits. A human who reviews a recommendation owns the decision, but the reasoning is less clear when an agent acts autonomously. An automated bid increase may fit the data while missing a competitor announcement, a changed campaign brief, or a brand issue outside the platform.

Operational tasks, such as pausing campaigns that reach their budget caps or generating performance summaries, may be better suited to autonomous execution. TechRadar says testing has found that advertisers who provide detailed goals, funnel structures, and target CPA information can see conversion-performance differences of over 100% compared with minimal instructions.

The industry is also moving toward MCP-based integrations, which connect agents to advertising APIs. API tokens can limit permissions and be revoked, but whoever holds a token has the access it covers. The article concludes that execution-level AI requires clearly defined limits and continued human oversight where strategy or context may change.
