Startup Abliteration.ai is offering modified open-weight AI models with their guardrails and refusals removed, making them available through a web browser or API.
The platform hosts altered versions of models including Z.ai’s recently released GLM-5.3. Abliteration.ai says the service is intended for offensive cyber, red-teaming, and agent-testing work that other models refuse to perform. The company’s argument is that defenders need to reproduce harmful behavior to prepare against it.
TechCrunch said it quickly created an account and queried an abliterated version of GLM-5.3 for free. In testing, the model complied with requests involving harmful cyber and biological activity, although the publication said it would not provide suicide instructions.
Abliteration has been used for years by open-source researchers and developers, and Hugging Face hosts thousands of abliterated models. Abliteration.ai, founded late last year and incorporated in March, has made the practice a commercial service that removes the need for customers to obtain models and computing resources themselves.
Co-founder Devon said the startup has several major cloud-provider deals and customers among early-stage red-teaming companies in the UK and Europe. The company has not raised venture capital but is in talks to do so. Critics, including CivAI research chief Andrew Yoon, warn that wider access could enable serious harm. Abliteration.ai offers a moderation layer, but has not introduced customer identity checks beyond recording the payment card used for purchases.
