ChatGPT is testing a Writing Style feature tied to personal apps

OpenAI is testing a new Writing Style feature for ChatGPT that can learn how a person writes by referencing examples from connected apps.

The feature is currently available to a small group of users. Its onboarding screen says ChatGPT will write in the user's voice by referencing examples from connected apps.

Users can provide examples in three categories: Messaging, Documents, and Email. OpenAI lists Slack for messaging, Google Drive and Notion for documents, and Gmail for email. Once configured, ChatGPT could use writing from those services when drafting new content, reducing the need to repeatedly explain a preferred tone or paste samples into a conversation.

Anthropic previously offered a similar personalization feature called Styles, which allowed users to upload or paste writing samples and generate a custom style based on their communication patterns. OpenAI's experiment takes a different approach by referencing writing that already exists in connected services. That could give ChatGPT more varied examples, including differences between emails, messages, and longer documents.

OpenAI has confirmed that it is testing Writing Style, but has not said when the feature will become widely available.
