Atlas 1.0 Pioneer Edition brain wearable costs $499 and sells out first batch

Neuroscience company Atlas has launched the Atlas 1.0 Pioneer Edition, a non-invasive brain-pattern monitor designed to sit behind the ear. It measures attention span, stress levels and energy burn without interfering with brain patterns.

The wearable costs $499, with prices of about £370 and AU$695 also reported. Atlas says it spent six years collecting more than 500,000 brain records while people followed their normal daily routines. In lab tests, the company says the device outperformed a $30,000 research-grade electroencephalography (EEG) monitor.

The first batch of pre-orders sold out in a few days. Atlas has not announced when another release will be available or whether the device will launch outside the US.

The wearable offers two days of battery life between charges. Its app is iOS-only for now, and the subscription costs $29.99 per month, or about £22 and AU$42, in addition to the upfront price. Atlas co-founder and CEO Ana Montero said the device is intended to help users understand their brain patterns and how those patterns relate to daily activities.
